After being a constant in the Capital for the last 14 seasons, Washington Capitals' center Nicklas Backstrom took the ice against the Buffalo Sabres' for his 1,000th NHL game. The fourth overall selection in the 2006 NHL Draft became the 69th player in NHL history to skate in 1,000 games for the same franchise and the second to do so in a Washington Capitals' sweater, joining teammate Alex Ovechkin.
